Liney Mahl Testimonial – Volunteer, April – June 2018
This has been my dream for a couple of years, and then my dream finally comes true. My favourite animals are also elephants. I REALLY love elephants! I decided that I wanted to do this trip when I was in college. I have stayed here for 6 weeks and it was a challenge for me at first because I haven’t been so far from my family for this long time, I didn’t know anybody and the language was hard for me because I think that I am not the best in English. But it gets better after a while!
The great thing about this place is that you are doing a lot of different things everyday so you will never get bored. You are obvious doing the observations of the elephants and that’s really cool but you also collect dung from the elephants, collect the data, photo project and making stuff in the AERU shop and you are doing a lot of more stuff.
I think it is really interesting to see how the elephants behave in different situations and I have learned a lot about the elephant that I didn’t know before I came here. It was really fun to see all the different personalities that the elephants have and you will get to know them better.
I really appreciate that you can in the weekends spend a lot of time with the elephants and be really close to them and you can do what you want on your spare time and that’s really awesome.
I am really happy and I am really proud of myself that I followed my dream and did this trip. This is a really good experience for me and I think I’m going to grow as a person after this. I’m going to miss all the amazing staff and volunteers I have met these 6 weeks I have been here and of course I’m going to miss the lovely elephants. I will take all of my experiences that I have done with me to Sweden.
I want to thank all of the staff members who were so amazing to me and have done these 6 weeks really awesome for me when I have been here.
