Born in: 1 January 2007 at Knysna Elephant Park to mum Thembile and dad Harry.
Meaning of name: Patience in Shona.
Recognised by: Shungu is recognised by a cone-shaped forehead. If you look very carefully, you will see an S-shaped kink in his tail.

Shungu’s name was given to him because nobody knew exactly when his mother, Thembile, had fallen pregnant, so this meant patiently awaiting his arrival. He is a very naughty, playful elephant with a great sense of humour.
