Sara Larca Testimonial – Volunteer, March – April 2018
I have loved Ellies since I can remember, and finally being able to be with them in the capacity that I am here is more than just a dream come true for me …. It’s EVERYTHING.
From the moment we arrived at the airport I knew that choosing AERU was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The staff and supervisors were warm and friendly and made us feel comfortable and appreciated from the very beginning. As time went on I realised how knowledgeable and fun they were as well. The way the days and shifts are set up is well done, it’s the perfect amount of breaks and field time so not once did I feel like I was being overworked or underappreciated. On top of that my AMAZING supervisors were willing to work with me if something came up and hear any new ideas or suggestions I had. (And also they put up with me for four weeks so that’s pretty big as well 😎 )
It helped that my volunteer group was just as stupendous. We all clicked immediately which only added to the quality of my stay. On and off the field we kept each other laughing and there was always someone around to lend a helping hand if needed.
I have learned so much about the welfare of these majestic creatures and am honoured to be a part of what they are doing here. Dr. Debbie is not only the coolest woman ever but very approachable which is a rarity where I come from. The Beautiful and Wonderful supervisors (Christina, Nicki, Clare, Taryn and Kathy) are clearly in love with the Ellies and with what they do here.. and its contagious. From all this it is crystal clear that they really do want to make a difference, which makes my heart (well if I had a heart) completely melt.
I am so sad to leave next week, but I am comforted by the fact that I WILL be back… (as soon as one of these nugget Ellies gets knocked up 😎 ) I will definitely keep in contact with the lovely ladies of AERU and do everything I can on my end (in the states) to keep the money and the volunteer participation following. This place and these people have imprinted on me and will forever be a part of my life.
Until next time Kiddos …..
